Members often ask how they can become more involved in the association. One of the reasons why RHA continues to be so successful is because our members are active. Whether it’s participating in the Government Affairs Committee, contributing to our political action campaign or volunteering time to our annual charity drive, you can make a difference and help RHA remain a vibrant organization.
Join the RHA Government Affairs Committee
The Government Affairs Committee monitors issues being addressed by the government that affect the rental housing industry. The committee assists the RHA staff in analyzing policy issues, developing official RHA positions, educating the membership and encouraging involvement in the government process. For more information, contact RHA Senior Deputy Director - Government Affairs, Cory Koehler, at Cory@RHA.org.
Contribute to CAAPAC
Government decisions at all levels have a major impact on how you run your business and manage the bottom line. Our industry must have legislators at the state and local level who are open to the concerns of rental owners and property managers and value the vital role our industry plays in the overall economy. Making political contributions to key state and local public policy makers is an excellent opportunity to build relationships during critical periods.
The California Apartment Association Political Action Committee (CAAPAC) is the non-partisan political arm of CAA and RHA. CAAPAC is dedicated to the protection, preservation and advancement of the rental housing industry. The primary purpose of CAAPAC is to make political contributions to candidates running for political office who are receptive to the concerns of the rental housing industry. CAAPAC also provides contributions to support or oppose issues such as ballot initiatives that affect the industry.
RHA members are encouraged to support CAAPAC by making a contribution when renewing membership or by a direct contribution to the fund.
Contribute to CAA Legal Fund
Active in the court system on behalf of our members, the California Apartment Association legal team monitors state and federal decisions that affect the rental housing industry. Current legal issues include landlord/tenant, environmental liability and labor relations laws. The CAA legal staff will develop and submit briefs and other legal documents that often impact the outcome on important cases.
The CAA Legal Fund provides monetary support for the activities associated with addressing legal issues. The CAA Legal Fund Committee is comprised of members, many of them attorneys, who evaluate written requests submitted by members and decide whether the association should commit resources to an issue.
RHA members can support the Legal Fund by making a contribution via the renewal process.
Contribute to the Neighborhood Enhancement Campaign
RHA’s Neighborhood Enhancement Campaign is a community service project that enhances the image of the rental housing industry. Formerly called the RHA Anti-Slumlord Campaign, the project seeks to improve the quality of neighborhoods where our members own rental property by supporting specific efforts at the local level.
RHA members can support the Neighborhood Enhancement Campaign by making a contribution via the renewal process.
